Family comes first on all of our small family farms. And many of our farmers don’t call farming work; they call it life.
At Pete and Gerry's, we believe that knowing where your food comes from is empowering—and in a time when in-person farm tours aren't possible, we're proud to share the ins and outs of our small family farms with you virtually. If you've ever wondered what an organic, Certified Humane Free Range egg farm looks like, you're in the right place: tap the video above or scroll through to explore the widen open pastures, spacious chicken coops, and packing rooms where the eggs you know and love are sorted each and every morning before making their way to your table.
On each of our small family farms, you'll find wide open pastures with plenty of green grass and foraging opportunities for our free range hens. Whether they're partial to dust baths or find themselves digging for grubs, our hens spend their days in the fresh air, free to roam the land and explore their very own piece of paradise. We believe that when our flocks are happy and nourished, they lay better organic eggs. That's why our partner farmers prioritize outdoor access and high standards for animal welfare.
Although our flocks spend the day outdoors, even free range hens need a safe place to sleep at night, and that's exactly what their coop is for. Each coop is a cozy, warm, completely cage-free santuary for our girls. It's where they socialize, nest, lay their eggs in privacy, and enjoy organic feed and fresh water any time of day. The coop also provides our hens with shelter come sundown when temperatures drop and predators are on the prowl.
For many of our farm families, the packing room is like an extension of their home. They take pride in this space; it's not uncommon to see adorable knick knacks, chicken-themed home décor, and other personal touches here and there. Even at the crack of dawn, you'll often hear good conversation and joyous laughter echoing from every corner of the room as the entire family pitches in, sorting and packing freshly laid organic eggs.
Hens are incredibly social animals with an affinity for the outdoors. We make sure that our grassy free range pastures and spacious cage-free chicken coops give them plenty of room to practice their natural behaviors, bask in the sunshine, and just enjoy life.
