By now you have no doubt heard about the massive Salmonella egg recall that was announced on April 13th by Rose Acre Farms and the FDA. While this recall is in no way connected to Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs, we are astonished by its impact and size – 207 million eggs packaged across about 9 different brands and distributed in 9 states. 207 million eggs is enough to let well over half of the U.S. population eat an egg for breakfast.
And here’s the incredible part: that number of eggs came from a single farm in North Carolina, over just 93 days of production. That means they are producing over 2 million eggs per day from over 2 million hens in one location – all in cages. Most Americans don’t know that about 9 out of 10 eggs are produced in facilities exactly like this. At Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs we simply don’t believe in factory farming. We partner with small, independent farms that can manage their egg operation with just their family. That typically means they will just have one, sometimes two, Certified Humane, free range barns with readily used outdoor pasture. This is better for farmers, farm communities, and hens. It is also better for the people who buy our eggs; they can trust the actual farmers who care for the hens that produce those eggs. While it is not possible to fully prevent disease we feel very strongly that how you farm goes a long way toward reducing the risk. I found a bad egg recently from your company, the first one I've found in twenty years from any company. Besides the smell, the outside of the yolk was covered with a light yellow layer and there was a brown stain on the inside of the shell. Whan means do you use to control quality with so many small farms supplying you eggs?

I visited a friend who buys from you guys. I found the eggs to be really flavorful and the color of the yolks was a much richer hue than regular store bought eggs. BUT, I can't buy them for myself unless you guys stop using plastic containers. For now, I am going to continue to buy Vital Farms because they use recycled paper containers. If you guys will switch away from plastic containers then I am down!!

Hello I have bought eggs previously from Pete and Gerry. I am currently using and the one I got now I am boil to use eggs. I see there is lot of brown stains on the egg white. Initially I thought it is just one or two now I boil every egg and I see the brown stain on egg white after I boil. Can you please tell is it consume. Please let me know.

Yesterday, 1/31, I cooked the last egg from a carton marked used by Feb 08. The white was good but when I bit into the yolk, it tasted like burnt plastic. Awful! What could cause that? I love your delicious, quality eggs and buy them exclusively, get mine at Harris Teeter (which is now owned by Kroger). Package also marked P-172 360 B9. So far no ill effects noted.

The Publix here in Ft Lauderdale Florida has removed all of your organic hard boiled packages and Egland brand from their refrigerated dairy shelves . When will your product be back on their shelves?

Production of these items will move to a new state of the art facility, but we haven't nailed down all of the details needed to make that possible yet. I've been using Eggland's Best Eggs for many years. Then my husband bought Pete and Gerry's organic eggs. They are without doubt the best I've had in many years. That says a lot coming from an old country farm girl. We won't be buying any other kind. We get ours from Bruce's Foodland in Fort Payne Alabama. Thanks for such a delicious product.

I just had your eggs for breakfast. These are the best eggs I've ever had! Lately, I have been so turned off by the flavor of eggs I've been buying. This date is the actual date of February 17, 2019. We're thinking you may have an "004" somewhere on this carton as well, and this would indicate a julian, or packaging date for this year. I buy either Pete and gerrys or Trader Joe exclusively.(depending on the availability and price of X-L). I eat a LOT of eggs, upward of 14 per week, sometimes much more if I use eggs for a soufle or quiche for dinner. I want the best, no pesticide residue or unhealthy fats (organic free-range eggs have an entirely different fat profile than regular eggs). These are my go to eggs when I can get them at a good price.

I have been purchasing your Organic Pete & Gerry's eggs for about 1 year now. It sort of disturbed me that you are being sued because of inhumane treatment of hens. When the lawsuit is resolved, and in your favor if you are found to be telling the truth, then I will resume purchasing your eggs once again. Thank you

Our team and family of partner farmers is deeply committed to ethical egg production on free range small family farms: in fact, we became the first Certified Humane egg producer in the US in 2003. Organizations such as PETA aim to end all animal agriculture, so even humane producers like us will never meet their standards. Meanwhile, nearly 85% of all laying hens in the US spend their entire lives in cages and never see the light of day.
